Lock up your pets – it’s Super Bowl Sunday!

If you’ve got a crowd coming over this Sunday to watch the game, you might want to take some precautions for your pet...

Here are some tips on having a pet-friendly party:

• If your pet is not particularly into football – or your drunk friends, consider designating a safe spot for them to take refuge. Strangers and loud, obnoxious environments can be especially frightening for an animal, especially if they aren’t particularly social.

• Watch the food. The coffee table may be convenient but why tempt fate or torture your dog with all of those goodies at nose level.

• If you’re tempted to let your pet join in, keep in mind that most party food can be especially dangerous. Wings with small bones are definitely a don’t, as are chips and dips. Too much salt or onion can be toxic to a dog.

• Raise a glass – and keep beer and other drinks out of the licking zone. Dogs LOVE beer and it’s really bad for them.

• Skip the foam fingers. A lot of cheering accessories will look like tempting toys to your pet. If chewed and swallowed, your pet could be seriously sidelined.
