Are you participating in the Dryathalon this month? What it is and why it could do more harm than good...

In the US we have the month of Movember, when men grow facial hair in support of cancer awareness...

In the UK, we’re halfway through the Dryathalon. It’s an alcohol-free endurance test through the month of January to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although it sounds like a noble, healthy cause, Dr. Christian Jessen disagrees - and says the dryatholon is actually bad for you. He says drinkers who participate in the January abstinence tend to go off the deep end come February and drink like fishes.

Dr.Jessen says medically speaking, it’s far better to go alcohol free 2 days a week year round than trying to atone for heavy drinking for one brief month. If you then hit the booze at the same level as before — or increase it — your body will actually be worse off. The real damage we do to ourselves is by consistent, long-term drinking. And if you happen to be in the UK come February 1st, consider yourself warned.
