Real maple syrup is expensive. Why it’s worth every penny...

When you’re buying maple syrup, it may pain you to reach for the real stuff...

...as it’s usually about four times the price of the fake, chemical infused version – but it’s worth every penny. Researchers at the University of Rhode Island explain the science of real maple syrup and why it’s so good for us. When a maple tree is tapped, it’s injured in the process. That wound encourages the tree to start producing a natural defense healing serum in the form of sap. Once that sap is boiled down into what we pour on our waffles and pancakes, it’s super concentrated. That sweet concentrate contains unique compounds not found anywhere else in nature and has been shown to have anti-cancer, anti-bacterial and anti-diabetic properties.

When you take advantage of all that pain and suffering the maple tree sustained to sweeten up your day, you’ll also be giving local farmers a boost, supporting sustainable agriculture and helping rural economies thrive – which makes that real maple syrup a bargain!
