So you think you can spell?

These kids and their spelling bees are making us look bad...

Experts at Oxford Dictionaries and Spellchecker.net have a list of the 15 words we misspell the most:

• A lot: Yes, it’s TWO words.

• A while: Again, two words.

• Believe: I before E except after C.

• Congratulations!: If you used a T instead of a D, you got it right!

• Embarrass: Double R, double S.

• Fiery: E before R on that one.

• Grateful: There’s no “great” in there.

• Its: The possessive doesn’t have an apostrophe.

• It’s: If it’s a substitute for “it is” – its got an apostrophe.

• Lose: Lose the extra O!

• Misspell: If there's only one S - you misspelled it.

• Principal: The head of your school is your pal.

• Receipt: I before E except after C.

• Separate: The two “e”s are separated by two “a”s.

• Weird: Strangely, the I before E rule doesn’t apply here.
