You might be tying your shoes all wrong. The shoe-tie knot you need to know...

Do you tie your shoes with a Granny knot?

A lot of people do and it's a lame tie. Take a look at the bow in your shoelaces. If it’s lying flat across the top of your foot – congratulations! You’re already using the preferred Reef knot. If the bow is at an angle, you’re using the inferior Granny knot. Switching your method to the Reef knot only involves changing one simple move. After you make a loop with the first lace, reverse the way you circle the other lace around it. If you go over then under, try under then over – or vice versa. It all depends on how you started your knot.

So what’s the big deal? Reef knots are not only more visually balanced, they actually tighten as you walk – unlike a Granny knot which will loosen with your stride.
