How efficient are those pre-measured laundry detergent pods?

If you’re tempted to buy those pre-measured laundry detergent pods...

Consumer Reports has put them to the test. Here’s what they found:

• Cleaning performance is an issue: The liquid varieties worked a little better than the powdery pods.

• Consider the cost: The pods will run you at least 22 cents more per load than the average detergent.

• Handling: You’ll need to have dry hands to handle the pods. The “skin” is designed to dissolve quickly.

For some people, the convenience still outweighs the potential drawbacks. They’re easier to lug around than the large, heavy detergent bottles and have much less mess potential.
