Wait – now sodium is good for us? Here's the scoop on some salt studies...

Should we really be skimping on salt?

A new study suggests it’s not as bad for us as we’ve been told. Most experts agree, cutting back on salt can help to lower blood pressure – but new research says reducing salt causes an increase in cholesterol and actually makes the kidneys work a little harder.

So what about all the other studies that say too much salt is no good? Dr. Lawrence Appel, professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins says, “Over 50 public health organizations can’t be wrong on this one.” The CDC still recommends a daily sodium intake of 2,300 mg a day for most Americans and a lot less for certain age and risk groups.
