You can’t teach old dogs new tricks… or can you?

You CAN teach an old dog a new trick!

Experts agree, age is not a trick learning handicap. Older dogs might actually be better at learning tricks because their attention span is a lot better than those young pups.

Breed, on the other hand, is a BIG factor. The smartest breeds are the border collie, poodle, German shepherd, golden retriever and the Doberman pinscher. These top dogs can learn a trick in 5 reps or less at any age. It will be harder to teach tricks to most basset hounds, bulldogs, bloodhounds and chow chows. They are considered the not-smartest breeds and may require 80 to 100 reps of the same trick before it sticks.
