If you’re rummaging through your kid’s Halloween cache – I’ll tell you what to skip..

Decisions, decisions...

If there’s a plastic pumpkin or pillowcase full of candy lying around your house – go for the chocolate.  Chocolate can actually lower the risk of developing heart disease and stroke. If the kids accuse you of taking the best stuff, remind them of your health.

If you stumble across some black licorice in there, keep digging. The FDA is warning people over the age of 40 to avoid too much black licorice, citing it could lead to arrhythmia or irregular heart rhythm. Black licorice can also interfere with some medication such as heart drugs and birth control pills.
