If you have aluminum foil lining the bottom of your oven – get it out of there!

If your mother taught you to line the oven with aluminum foil – she was wrong!

Not only is it a bad idea – it could void your oven’s warranty. Consumer Reports took a close look at the Use & Care guides of several ranges and found aluminum foil warnings in most of them. Aluminum foil can trap heat, melt onto surfaces and pose a risk of shock or fire.

If you don’t believe the manufacturers – go ahead and check the Reynolds aluminum foil box. They also recommend against lining the oven with it. If your range has a warming drawer below the oven – skip the foil lining there too. It could trap heat and throw off the oven’s performance.  It's fine to use heavy duty foil on the rack or under your food as long as there is room for air to circulate around it.

  1. Too late....I used it and some melted right onto the bottom of my over.....I could cry every time I look at it. Don't know if there is any way to remove it.
