Did your dog get the flu shot this season?
Dogs CAN get the flu – and it’s not too late for them to get them vaccinated. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, canine influenza first showed its teeth in 2004 amongst greyhounds – and has now been detected in 38 states. Doggy flu symptoms are pretty much like we humans suffer – runny nose, cough and a fever. Your vet can confirm it’s the flu with a blood test or nasal swab.
The dog flu vaccine usually cost between $25 and $60. They get 2 shots, followed by an annual booster. It’s a good idea to have your dog vaccinated if they are in daycare or scheduled to be boarded in close quarters.
