If you’ll be washing your whites any time soon – I’ll tell you which way to wash which whites...

Do you wash all your whites in warm water?

We found some washing wizards to weigh in with their white washing ways:

• Bedding stylist, Steven Whitehad, says we should only wash white sheets with other white items. Use warm water but skip the chlorine bleach. That just breaks down the fragile fibers and will compromise the quality of your bedding.

• Nancy Bock, of the American Cleaning Institute, says if you’re washing white towels, you can use some bleach, but not too much. She also says we should really check our washing machine’s owner’s manual and do what it says. Different models have different methods of adding bleach.
Some people are convinced they need to use hot water to wash their whites or kill germs on loads of sheets or towels. The experts say warm water is just fine. Hot water isn’t as hot as it used to be and won’t kill more germs or bacteria – but it will cause a little more wear and tear on fibers and colors.
