If you’d like to live longer, stop smoking and stay married...
According to a recent study from the University of Arizona – divorced adults are at a higher risk of an early death than married adults. Their report claims a marital split can be as harmful to physical health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, being overweight or drinking too much.
The study found that emotional health is at risk too, especially in the initial days and months after the divorce. According to Rachel Sussman, author of “The Breakup Bible,” processing the emotions of a divorce such as sorrow, anger, shame and fear are likely to leave the divorcee feeling run-down, vulnerable and prone to some bad habits like overeating and substance abuse.
