If you’re costume shopping this week, there are some scary accessories you might want to skip...

If you’re still looking for that perfect Halloween costume, you might want to skip the wig...

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has some Halloween costume safety issues to keep in mind while making your choice:

• Beards and wigs can be dangerous. If you’ll be wearing one be sure to check the label for the phrase “Flame Resistant.”

• Avoid baggy sleeves and billowy skirts for kids. They’ll likely be excited and not conscious of the hazards that go along with those.

• Ties, hats and scarves are not a good idea for young children.

• Be cautious with face paint--much of it isn't FDA-approved and could trigger allergic reactions.

It’s also a good idea to buy a roll of reflective tape while you’re shopping. Kids and adults alike should have some on their costume if they’ll be trick-or-treating at night.
