If you’re a bystander in a CPR situation – there’s something you can do to help...

You may breathe a huge sigh of relief if someone else comes to the rescue in an emergency – but you’re not off the hook...

A recent study found that someone suffering sudden cardiac arrest in a public place has a much better chance when two or more people are helping.

For a lot of us, it’s human nature to stand back and let someone who knows what they’re doing take over. However, even if you’re not prepared to perform CPR, you could be the one to ultimately save a life. Your job is to immediately start asking if anyone nearby is a health professional. Next, designate someone to start looking for an AED, or automated external defibrillator. While you’re waiting for the ambulance, stay with the person doing the CPR and assist them by helping them count compressions and offering calm words of encouragement.
