The DEA wants your drugs! How to dispose of them, no questions asked...

If you’ve got expired or unwanted medication lying around – don’t just toss them in the garbage...

Flushing them is not a good option either. Both prescription and over-the-counter medications can wind up in our waste stream or on the street if they’re not handled properly.

The DEA sponsors a Federal Take Back Program twice a year, and the next one is later this month. They will take your prescription, over-the-counter, veterinary drugs, controlled substances, herbs and vitamins off your hands, no questions asked. Just leave in the original bottles and black out any personal information with a permanent marker.

The next Federal Take Back Program is September 29th. To find the nearest drug drop-off locations, go to www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/.
