Have you checked your kids’ backpack yet? You won’t believe what’s in there...

For a lot of kids, back-to-school means back-to doctor...

A lot of school supplies and equipment are like petri dishes from the science lab – and those germs are coming home on your child and making us sick. Here are some of the top offenders:

• The backpack: Consider what goes in there. Sweaty gym clothes and forgotten snacks are ideal components for breeding bacteria. Thoroughly clean it once a week and don’t toss it on the kitchen table or counter.

• The computer lab is crawling with germs. Computer keyboards contain more bacteria than a toilet seat. Send your child to school with anti-bacterial wipes and tell them to give the keyboard and mouse a swipe as soon as they sit down.

• The surfaces of the desks at school are disgusting. Your child will need another anti-bacterial wipe for that.

Make sure you pack plenty of water. Your child is probably better off NOT using the drinking fountain. Experts say those are harboring more germs than the bathroom because the bathrooms are cleaned on a regular basis and the fountains may not be.
