If you really need a nap – make sure to take the right kind...

Naps are nice – and they come in all different lengths...

In order to nap like a champion, make sure you take the right type of nap for your type of tired. Here are some options:

• The nano-nap: This nap just lasts 10-20 seconds. Sleep studies have yet to figure out what the specific nano-benefits are.

• The micro-nap: Lasting just 2 to 5 minutes, it’s very effective at shaking sleepiness.

• The mini-nap: Doze off for 5 to 20 minutes, and you’ll increase alertness, stamina, motor learning and motor performance.

• The original power-nap: Clocking in at a classic 20 minutes, power naps improve muscle memory and clears the brain of useless built-up information.

• The lazy man’s Nap: Crash out for 50 to 90 minutes and you’ll enjoy some slow-wave REM sleep which is good for perceptual processing and improves alertness for up to 10 hours.

If you happen to be flying a plane, or you're on a long road trip – set your alarm for a NASA-nap. This one lasts for 26 minutes. This nap was found to enhance pilot performance by 34%. Just be sure you have a co-pilot handy.
