Neti pots are great – IF you use the right kind of water...

Cold and flu season is creeping up on us – and if you rely on a neti pot for congestion relief, you NEED to take some precautions...

According the the FDA, improper use of neti pots can be dangerous, even deadly. Neti pots, which look like little teapots, flush out the sinuses. However, using plain old tap water could inject dangerous brain-burroughing amoeba right in.

Experts agree, neti pots are perfectly safe as long as you’re using the right kind of water in there. The safest bet is to buy distilled water. Another option is to boil your tap water for 3 to 5 minutes, then let it cool. You’ll be able to safely store and use that for 24 hours.
