Why is your line moving slower than the others?

If you feel like you always wind up in the slow lane in traffic or at the store, it may be an illusion. 

According to BBC Future, it’s called illusory correlation. It’s a built in mechanism we have that compares similar situations without considering all the variables. This phenomenon can actually distort what’s really happening. Because we’re naturally a bit self-absorbed, we feel a stronger “why me” sense of bad luck or injustice when things aren’t going our way.
