If you’d like to eat less, don’t watch the news tonight.

Do you watch the news while eating dinner? 

That’s a bad idea. You might think bad or unsettling news would cause us to lose our appetite - but just the opposite is true. Scientists say we actually start to eat more and crave fattening comfort food after being exposed to bad news. That’s because harsh realities can trigger our survival instincts. Bad news can subconsciously cause us to doubt the future and start stockpiling calories and resources to improve our chance of survival.
