If you’re leaving for vacation - mow the lawn first.
That’s one of the things burglars look for when scoping out the neighborhood. Long grass is a dead giveaway. If you’ll be gone for a while, have someone mow it again while you’re away. Thieves also take note of who’s cans aren’t out on garbage day. Mail, newspapers and flyers matter too, if they’re still there the next day, there’s a good chance you’re away.
Ask a neighbor to include your house in their daily routine. Even if a burglar suspects you’re away, they’re less apt to strike if they know someone might be watching.
