The next time you get a robocall - don’t press 2. What to do instead...

Automated calls can be maddening.

If you make it through the first five seconds, waiting for an opt-out option, you’ve gone too far. Robocalls often provide you with a choice of hitting “1” to speak to a customer service rep, or “2” to be removed from the call list. Don’t take the bait. In many cases, pressing “2” can actually make matters worse. It lets the caller know they’ve reached an active line and could even land your number on the “call again” list.

Your best plan of action with automated calls is to hang up. Don’t press any buttons. You can file a complaint with the FTC at FTC.gov or DoNotCall.gov.
