You might have a therapist living in your house...

Are you living with a therapist?

If someone in your family has four legs and fur – it’s possible. Ursula Kempe, of Therapy Dogs International says you might just be able to have your pet certified if they meet the criteria. Here’s what they need:

• Pet therapists need to be comfortable around strangers. Pets that enjoy being touched by new people, with a calm and friendly temperament, might be perfect.

• Therapy pets need to be calm and comfortable with other animals because they’re likely to come in contact with other “therapists.” It’s best if the pet shows only a casual interest in other animals and is able to stay focused on the patient.

• Therapy pets are exposed to different people and environments every day and shouldn’t startle too easily or be fearful of unfamiliar noise, sights or smells.

If you think your pet would be a good therapy candidate, you can learn more about getting them certified at DeltaSociety.org.
