If you own a pearl necklace – put it on!

The best way to care for a real pearl necklace is to wear it...

Saving those pearls for special occasions can actually make them look dull and dry them out. The oil in our skin is what keeps perals looking lustrous – so be sure to wear them on a regular basis. Just be sure NOT to apply hairspray, perfume or lotion after you’ve got them on. Those can all damage and dull your pearls. Blue Nile Jewelers has some other precious advice for our jewelry:

Take your gold off or wear gloves if you’ll be cleaning. Chlorine and other cleaning products will dull and damage precious metals. To clean your gold, just use warm water and detergent-free soap with a soft-bristled brush.
The more you wear your silver jewelry – the less it will tarnish. When you do first spot tarnish on there – it will be a lot easier to remove if you don’t let it build up. Use silver polish for that.
