The next time you open a bottle of wine – put a little in a spray bottle...

Researchers have determined that wine has got some powerful antibacterial properties...

They tested out some chardonnay and pinot noir on some bacteria, including salmonella and staph, and the wine killed the bacteria. The research scientists say spraying our fruits and vegetables with a little wine before we wash them can be as effective at killing bacteria as a commercial cleaner. They’re even working on developing a wine based food disinfectant made from waste wines that wineries discard.

If you can’t bear to spare some wine to spray on your food – go ahead and drink it. The study also found that people who drink wine with meals may be better protected from food poisoning.
