The next time you buy gas or food – use your credit card, not your debit card.

When it comes to buying gas, paying with a credit card is a safer option than using your debit card...

According to CBS Moneywatch, gas stations are prime targets for scammers and debit cards give them more opportunity for overcharging or placing a hold on your account. When you use a credit card, you’ll be charged for the exact amount you spend, making it easier to detect any fraud.

The same rule should apply at restaurants. If the card will be leaving your sight, make sure it’s a credit card and not debit. Handing over your debit card gives potential crooks too much information about your bank account. Conventional credit cards are better at detecting fraud and offering you some protection.
