If you’re having a meal with the boss or a client - do NOT order this...

You may look at that business meal as a great opportunity to order lobster - but that’s a really bad idea. ..

When dining with colleagues or clients, it’s best not to order something that is difficult to eat. Chances are, you’ll make a mess and the cracking, digging and lobster bib is not going to be your best, most professional look. It’s also not a good idea to order the most expensive thing on the menu unless it is recommended by the host. Here are a few more business meal faux-pas to avoid:

• If the meal is not to your liking, suck it up. Sending it back will make you look high-maintenance.

• Don’t special order items on the menu. Avoid phrases like “hold the...” or “on the side.” This just interrupts the flow for everyone else.

• Watch your speed. Try not to eat much faster or slower than your company. One of you will wind up having to watch the other one finish.

• If they order an appetizer or dessert - you should too. This helps to avoid an awkward void at the table. You don’t have to eat it all if you don’t want to.

• Eat your OWN bread, not theirs. Remember BMW - like the car. Bread on your left, meal in the middle, water on the right. Those are yours.
