• Cars: Due to the new fuel efficiency requirements, automakers will be passing that cost onto you.
• Groceries: Thanks to a drought this past summer, farmers were forced to reduce the size of their herds. That means the price of beef and chicken will be going up, along with the cost of dairy products. Fewer and leaner cows produce less milk.
• Grain: Even if you don’t buy grain, you probably buy cereal and bakery products. You’ll be paying more for those this year.
• Beer: The expensive grain is just part of the problem. A new SEC metal trade fund is expected to send copper up. That copper is used in equipment for brewing beer and distilling liquor.
• Health Care: No big surprise there. Employers will have to deal with higher premiums and will need to pass part of that onto their employees. Expect to pay 6% more.
• Tuition: Many states won’t be able to subsidize rising costs. The cost of more administrators, new dorms and more property will show up in your fee bill. Expect a 4.8% in-state tuition increase and 3.7% more in fees.
• iPhone Accessories: Now that Apple has changed the ports, expect to pay premium prices for chargers, docks and cases.
