According to a report in Infection Control Today, some older and cheaper models are actually polluting as they clean. Scientists tested 21 vacuum cleaners, household and commercial, and found the older and less expensive ones were actually spewing bacteria and dust that could spread infection and trigger allergies. Vacuums with HEPA filters were a little better than those without – but the newer and more expensive vacuum cleaners were far superior and less polluting than the older and less expensive models.
