Have you heard? Memory foam bedding could be a problem.

If you dream of sleeping on a memory foam mattress, pad or pillow – you may want to reconsider...

According to dermatologist Audrey Kunin, author of “Skinstruction Manual,” memory foam is made with potentially harmful chemicals, such as polyurethane and formaldehyde. She says there have been consumer complaints from memory foam sleepers – ranging from skin rashes and headaches to difficulty breathing, diarrhea and even strange dreams. These complaints usually come in the first days or weeks of sleeping on the new mattress.

When you first purchase a memory foam mattress, mattress pad or pillow, you may notice a strong chemical odor when first unwrapped – but manufacturers have gotten better at masking these odors. It’s important to air your new mattress out before using it. To do this, stand it on its side in a well-ventilated room for a few days or even weeks.  The same goes for pads and pillows.
