If you’d rather not have the new Facebook Timeline – too bad!

If you enjoy your Facebook the way it is, without Timeline, savor that now...

According to a press release from Facebook, you’re getting Timeline whether you like it or not in a few weeks. If you’re not familiar with Timeline yet – the first thing you’ll notice is wallpaper image behind your profile shot. You’ll have the opportunity to upload whatever you want there. More importantly, Timeline will have lots of information about you, all the way back to the day you were born in some cases. You’ll have to scroll down to see it all, or click on a year. Here is how Facebook describes Timeline: "Timeline gives you an easy way to rediscover the things you shared, and collect your most important moments. It also lets you share new experiences, like the music you listen to or the miles you run."

A lot of activity you don’t know you’re sharing will also be visible to others, like games played and comments posted. Just be sure to block posting by applications you’d rather not share as you use them. You’ll see an option for that in the right hand column once Timeline is active. You'll also want to double check the settings for stuff you post once Timeline arrives.  There will be more options than you're used to and they start out in default mode.  You can see how everything will work on Facebook’s “Introducing Timeline” page: www.facebook.com/about/timeline
