Not-So-Old Age

Most people expect some memory issues when they’re old and grey...

We associate memory loss with old age – but a new study in the British Medical Journal says age-related memory problems actually start in our mid-to-late 40s. Researchers tracked the mental function of more than 7,000 participants for a decade - and found even the youngest, between 45 and 49, displayed measurable declines in short-term memory and mental reasoning over the 10 years.

Some other factors have been found to have a big impact on our brain function as we age too. Obesity, unhealthy cholesterol levels and lack of exercise in midlife are all linked with an increased risk of dementia later on.
