Bored to Death

Are you bored? That could be a BIG problem...

Boredom isn’t just boring – it could be deadly. Researchers continue to find links between chronic boredom and early death. One UK study of 7,500 civil servants in the mid-80s had some startling results 25 years later. People who had said they were bored in the first screening were 40% more likely to have died since then. More of the people who rated their lives as “interesting” were still around for the rest of the study.

Life coach, Lauren Zander, says severe boredom is actually very powerful and destructive. It feeds on itself, breeding laziness and more dissatisfaction. To break the vicious cycle – it’s best to start small. Drive around a town you’ve never visited – or try shopping at a farmer’s market instead of the grocery store. Subtle changes in your routine can stimulate the senses and really make a difference.
