Mattress Shopping

If you plan on shopping for a mattress, pack your pillow – this could take a while...

In order to choose one, you’ll really need to spend up to 15 minutes on each one – staying in your favorite sleeping positions for at least 5 minutes. And it’s a really good idea to bring your own pillow. It will give you a more accurate feel and keep your head and face off of public property. Consumer Reports literally ripped apart 11 different mattresses. They found the difference between a 1 and 2 thousand dollar mattress was often just fancier stitching and maybe some more padding. Consumer Reports won’t rate mattresses because it’s such a personal preference. You are the only person who can determine whether it feels right.

Tod Marks, Consumer Reports Shopping Expert, says don’t be afraid to haggle a bit on the price of the mattress you like. Mattresses go on sale frequently and paying full price is not a good idea. Also, you should really ignore the sales pitch. The sales people are often instructed to push one mattress over another.
