Is there any truth to feeding a cold and starving a fever? Let’s find out...

Feed a Cold and Starve a Fever...

You’ve probably heard that one before. It’s been around as long as colds and fevers but alas, there’s not much truth to it. The theory is that we should feed the internal fireplace with food when chills set in, that’s the cold. Which means it would only make sense to shut the furnace down when we’re hot with fever. Don’t tell Grandma – but there’s no scientific evidence that supports this approach. Unfortunately, most illnesses will simply run their course regardless of whether your feeding or starving it.

A more productive illness mantra might be: Water the cold, water the fever. The key to flushing the toxins out and preventing dehydration is keeping up with your fluid intake. Chicken soup counts.
