Researchers put some 50 to 80 year olds to the simple test – sit on the floor, now get up. It turns out that the adults who managed to stand up without using their hands or other assistance ultimately lived longer than those who couldn’t.
Scientists say this is a strong predictor of health and a good test of overall fitness in middle age. Standing up from a sitting position on the floor and sitting back down can say a lot about or physical strength, flexibility and coordination, all of which are imperative to our longevity.
