Do you collect stuff like Hummels or Beanie Babies?

If you’re wondering what that treasured collection of Hummel figurines is worth – don’t get your hopes up...

According to Lou Kahn, head of the Bakerstowne Collectibles appraisal and consignment service in west Hempstead, N.Y., they aren’t worth the crates you’re packing them in. That’s because the German company that created them ratcheted up production after World War II. Because people never seem to throw them away, 60 to 70% of them are still out there which keeps their value way down. Here are some other collectibles you might want to STOP collecting:

• Beanie Babies: They’re worthless. Most of them sell for about $2 – that’s a $4 loss.

• Precious Moments: They’re worth precious nothing.

• Franklin Mint Collectibles: Those silver medallions, dolls and such sell for a fraction of their original price – that’s if you can sell them at all.

• Hess trucks: The early models from the 60s and 70s are worth something. If it was produced in the 80s or later – go ahead and play with it – that’s the most value you get.

• Thomas Kinkade paintings: In most cases, the frame is worth more than the print.
