Is the person right next to you a liar? Yup...
We’re all liars to some extent. Pamela Meyer, author of “Lie Spotting,” says there are some simple ways to spot a liar – or to avoid being spotted, depending on which you need more:
• Liars are quick to distance themselves from the subject. “I did NOT have sexual relations with that woman.” Two giveaways there – “did not” and “that woman.”
• Liars use qualifying language, like “to tell you the truth.”
• Repeating the question before answering it dishonestly is another common lie indicator.
• Eye contact – liars often overdo it. Extended eye contact with frozen upper body – liar.
• Fake smile – it’s another liar reflex. If it’s the type of smile you’d see in a posed photograph, it’s a fake.
• Too much detail is a hint. Suggesting harsh penalties for the “real culprit” is another favorite tactic of liars.
• Liars are terrible at telling their stories backwards.
• Check the feet. Are they pointed toward an exit? Liar!
