Your shoes could be doing a number on your feet!

When it comes to shoes, women have a LOT more options than men – and most of them are really bad for the feet...

Podiatrist Hillary Brenner has the worst offenders and some better options:

• High heels: How high is too high? Anything over 2 inches puts your foot in an unnatural position. Aside from the wobbly gate and twist or fall risk, you could be doing some real joint and bone damage.

• Ballet flats: With no support at all, you’re risking damage to the knee and hip and back problems. Slip some orthotic inserts in those.

• Flip-flops: With practically no protection, you’re risking injury, infection and could wind up with painful plantar fasciitis. If you’re a flip-flop freak – opt for the fitted kind.
• Platform shoes and wedges: Walking on heavy blocks is hard work. They have zero flexibility and prevent your feet from moving the way they were meant too. There are no flexible platforms but you’ll be better off with a lower, lightweight version.

• Pointy toes: They might look great – but your feet won’t. Over time they can cause bunions, blisters and hammertoes. Some women even develop bruises under the toenails from the constant pressure. Find a rounder toe and softer material.

00Guys aren’t off the hook with their footwear. Stylish pointy-toed footwear will mess up your feet too. And those new-fangled fitness shoes with toes are no good. They lack support for your heel and arch and interfere with your natural walking position.
