Should you really call in sick today?
If you feel awful, have a fever or are coughing or sneezing – YES! You’re not doing anyone any favors by spreading it around. You can tell your boss Dr. Aaron E. Glatt, spokesperson for the Infectious Diseases Society of America, said so. He says we have to be conscious that we are not only taking care of our own health, but the health of other people.
When you do call in sick – don’t look like a faker. Avoid sending an email or leaving an early morning message. Ask to talk directly to your supervisor. Explain that you’re sick, apologize for the inconvenience, keep the call short and skip the gory details. Be careful not to oversell it by plugging your nose or forcing a cough – and try to be sick Tuesday through Thursday. Monday’s and Friday’s are the most suspicious.
