Could your cat be the next Internet sensation?

What is it with cats and the Internet?

If you’ve never heard of Grumpy Cat, Snoopy the Cat or Scarface, you’re not up on your online feline sensations. Could your cat be the next craze? Yes, according to Patricia Carlin, author of the new book "How to Make Your Cat an Internet Celebrity.” She says every cat has potential. Here are her tips:

• Step 1: Identify his potential: Does he have quirky habits, freakishly long whiskers, a unique tail or odd meow?

• Step 2: Pick a good stage name: Some famous examples: Hapi Cat, Lil bub, Colonel Meow and of course, Keyboard Cat.

• Step 3: Coin his schtick: You’ll need to experiment with some props and observe his behavior. Doing nothing worked for Internet darling Henri, le Chat Noir, who lazes around his French apartment while his owner narrates his mood.

• Step 4: Film a viral video: Don’t worry about camera quality; just be sure to move the laundry and dirty dishes first. Keep the video short and sweet, 90 seconds will do. It’s best if you can brand your video by inserting a logo.

• Step 5: Market your cat: Give your video a catchy title. Then, share on social media. You can also join special interest sites such as Catmoji or Catster, where other cat lovers are likely to share your creation.

• Step 6: Maintain the momentum: Once your video has people talking, create a Twitter account under your kitty's name, along with a personalized website. If your video is a success, people will want to see more of your cat, so Tweet under his name on a daily basis.

With any luck, you and your furry friend could be the next big thing. Think endorsements, merchandise and public appearances. Just ask Grumpy Cat, who recently landed a deal as spokescat for Friskies.
