What kind of toilet paper do you use?

A lot of us are surprisingly loyal to our toilet paper.

If you have a go-to TP, make sure you’re getting your money’s worth. Some brands are getting sneaky, with larger cardboard tubes, narrower rolls or even smaller sheets. Consumer Reports put several brands to the test and found the best performing papers.

White Cloud 3-Ply Ultra is the top TP. It had the highest scores in strength, softness, disintegration and tearing ease. Charmin Ultra Strong is top shelf toilet paper too, scoring well in the tearing ease department – but it’s more expensive at 41 cents per 100 sheets.

The other brands didn’t exactly wipe up the winnings. Scott 100 is cheap but is neither soft nor strong. Marcal Small Steps is borderline harsh. Cottonelle CleanCare with Touch of Soft Cotton is one of the most expensive and one of the least soft.
