That perfect gel manicure sure looks great. How it could wreck your nails...

There is a lot to love about the new gel manicures...

They’re perfect and shiny and last for weeks, without chipping. Just don’t get them on a regular basis. New research is suggesting that gel manicures can increase the risk of skin cancer and RUIN your nails. Each coat of the polish or gel is dried with UV light for setting. That can cause damage to your skin cells which can lead to premature aging and cancer risk. Because the airtight gel stays on your nails like glue, you could also wind up with weaker, thinner, brittle nails after the fact, leaving you more prone to breakage. The acetone necessary to remove the gel is also really hard on your hands and nails and it is advised that you avoid gel manicures on a regular basis and save them for special occasions.
