Have you tried the latest superfood? It’s pond scum...

How about a pond scum smoothie?

It’s being touted as one of the great superfoods and it’s a blue-green algae called spirulina. It floats on the surfaces of ponds, lakes and reservoirs and it’s packed with protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Spirulina is even on NASA’s list of recommended food for long term space missions. It’s super easy to digest and in powder form, can be easily added to smoothies, juice or sprinkled on food.

Spirulina is believed to help prevent or treat a host of health concerns including anemia, allergies, cataracts, diabetes and heart disease - but it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor first before adding any new superfoods or supplements to your diet.
