If you can’t wait to dig into that roast beef sandwich or apple pie – make sure you smell it first...
A recent study out of the Netherlands found that we will eat less of that delicious food if we take a big whiff first. They used creamy custard for their test. The folks that got to smell it first took smaller bites than the people who had to skip the sniff. That’s because the aroma of whatever we’re about to eat starts to satisfy us before it hits our lips.
The authors of the study also suggest staying away from bland food, which takes longer to send satisfying signals to your brain. The more aroma and flavor it has, the less it takes to satisfy your senses.
