If you plan on buying the new iPhone 5 – you’ll probably need to buy a lot more than just the phone...

The new iPhone won’t fit in your old case. If you’d rather not have a vulnerable, naked phone, you’ll need a case specifically designed for the new iPhone's dimensions and feature access. 

While you’re at it, you’ll probably want to pick up some new cables, accessories or adapters – seeing as Apple has changed those connections. That 30-point connection to your charger and docks has been switched to a totally new 5-point Lightning connection. If you’ve got one of those fancy armbands for exercising with your iPhone 4 – you’ll need to upgrade that as well.

While manufacturers are churning out these new accessories to meet the expected demand, they may be in short order at first. Some are not even available yet – but it is recommended that you pre-order them to beat the rush. And if you plan to sell your older iPhones, be sure to factor in the cables and accessories. You won't be needing those anymore unless you opt to invest in the adapters, expected to sell for $19 to $39.
