Having kids is expensive. Here’s how to get some of your money back...

If you’ve got kids – use them to save some money! 

There are a lot of companies that offer student discounts on some big ticket items. Here are a few to look into:

• Cellphone plans: If you’ve got a college student, check to see if their school has a partnership with a cellphone carrier. It could save you up to 18% on the bill. You can either check with the college or university, or with your wireless company.

• Computers and software: Several big tech companies offer student discounts from kindergarten through college. Check online at the Microsoft Student Store, HP Academy and Apple Store for Education.

• Stores and websites: There are discounts out there for high school and college students – up to 35%. Urban Outfitters, Netflix, iTunes and Amazon all have some great student offers.

• Cars and insurance: Some big carmakers, including GM and Ford, offer college student and recent graduate discounts. Check with your insurance company for good student driver discounts too.
