1. Sugary cereals: Some kids' cereals contain the same sugar and nutritional value as cookies. Instead, look for cereals that have a bit more fiber and less than 10 grams of sugar.
2. Granola bars: Most kids' varieties are far from nutritional. Similar to kids' cereals, granola bars are often loaded down with sugar and have unhealthy extras like dyes, chocolate, and candy. Again, look for more fiber, less sugar.
3. Processed meats: Hot dogs and some deli meats are chock full of fat, sodium, and nitrates and have been linked to a risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Instead, look for no-preservative, organic deli meats.
4. French fries, chips, pizza, and chicken nuggets: These are classic favorites and don’t need to be banned forever. Just consider them a treat and keep portions in check.
5. Juices and soda: they’re both full of empty calories and do not keep your kids hydrated. Water is always the best option. Opt for 100% fruit juice and water it down.
