If it’s time to fill your grill’s propane tank - check the expiration date first...

Propane tanks DO expire...

A lot of people don’t realize this until they go to fill it up and are turned away. Federal law requires all propane tanks to be re-certified 12 years after the original manufacture date. To find that information, look at the metal collar around the valve at the top of the tank. The month and year are usually stamped on there in four digits, for example, 08 13. If your tank is nearing or past the expiration date, you’ll need to find a propane dealer who will re-certify your tank for free in most cases.
